if 가정법 - part 3: 미래

1. (어떤 조건 하에) ~할거야(나의 의지/계획): be going to

• If it rains this weekend, I'm going to stay home.
• If she asks, I'm just going to pretend I don't know anything.
• If I get off work early today, I*'m going to** meet up with some friends for some drinks.
• If this happens again, they're going to lose everything.

2. (어떤 조건 하에) ~을 할 수 있다 / 할 지도 모른다 / 해도 된다: can, might ...

할 수 있다: can

• If you don't like it, you can return it / send it back.
  ※ 환불하다: refund 보다 return, send back이 더 자연스러운 표현임

할 지도 몰라(가능성): might

• If you study really hard, you might pass the test.
• If you tell her the truth, she might understand.

해도 된다, 할 필요가 없다 (옵션): can, don't have to

• If you're late, you can just take a taxi.
• You don't have to eat if you're not hungry.

3. 1 + 2: 조동사 + 조동사 or 시제 + 조동사

• 조동사 + 조동사, 시제 + 조동사의 뉘앙스를 느껴라. 한국어와 1:1 매칭할 필요 없다.
  이해하려고만 하지 말고, 익숙해지도록 많이 연습해라.

해야 할 지도 몰라: might have to

• (~해야 돼: have to) + (~할 지도 몰라: might)

• If I can't save enough money, I might have to borrow some.
  ※ If조건절에서 미래 얘기 할 때에는 항상 미래형 현재형을 쓴다

• Michael is supposed to give a presentation in the meeting today.
  But, if he is late, you might have to do it.

못 할 거야/ 할 수 없을 거야: won't be able to

• (~안할 거야(미래): won't) + (할 수 있다(능력): be able to)

• If they don't help us, we won't be able to finish this on time.

할 수 있을지도 몰라: might be able to

• (할 지도 몰라(가능성): might) + (할 수 있다(능력): be able to)

• If we leave now, we might be able to catch the last train/bus.

할 수 있을 거야: be going to be able to

• (할 거야(미래): be going to) + (할 수 있다(능력): be able to)

• If the weather is really clear, we're going to be able to take some nice pictures.
