The German airline Hahn Air has become the first to issue its tickets using blockchain technology. It has done so on the open source travel distribution platform Winding Tree.

The first passengers boarded last November on a flight from Dusseldorf to Luxembourg.

In a statement issued by the company, the latter explained that Hahn Air has the technical capacity to issue blockchain-powered tickets.

Meanwhile, Maksim Izmaylov recalled that blockchain technology has enormous potential for all industries, in addition to "infinite" applications. In this sense, he assured that at Windig Tree they believe that “blockchain will have the power, like NDC, to fundamentally change the face of travel distribution . With extensive knowledge, an innovative mindset and an unrivaled network, Hahn Air is the ideal partner for us. "

Through the Winding Tree platform, the airline can keep inventory up-to-date, manage reservation requests and receive payments. As payment methods, it accepts cash, credit cards, Ether, and the LIF token.

These are the advantages of using blockchain technology in airline tickets:

Being open source, travel agencies, airlines and distribution systems can exchange information and transactions in an agile and simple way.
As intermediaries are eliminated, costs are reduced.

The information is totally secure, free of modifications and manipulations.

Blockchain in travel

This is not the first initiative to link blockchain technology to travel. In this same blog we have already talked about travel agencies that accept payment with bitcoins or the Triip project , among others.

In addition, last November, the British company Alternative Airlines began accepting payments in cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ether, Dash, DigiByte) and UTK, the native Utrust token.
