off는 기본적으로 벗기다, 떨어지다의 의미를 가지고 있다. 동사 take 보다 더욱 더 직관적인 의미를 내포하고 있다. 단순히 take는 off의 의미를 동사화 했다고 볼 수 있다. on & off와 같이 끄다, 정상에서 벗어나 있다, 그러한 개념으로 풀이된다.
