클라우드가 뭔지 아십니까? 영어로는 구름 아니 한국어로 구름입니다. 굳이 잘못 적은 글을 지우지 않고 냅두고 계속 적는 이유는 그래도 누군가 이걸 보고 피식하거나 아님 나중에 제가 이 글을 다시 봤을 때 피식했으면 좋겠어서 남겨봤습니다!
간략한 자기소개
저는 이제 컴공을 졸업했던 사람입니다. 어쩌다보니 에이블스쿨이라는 kt가 운영하는 부트캠프에 들어왔고 눈을 깜았다 뜨니 벌써 절반의 시간이 지나갔고, 이래저래 걱정이 많은 현시점에서 클라우드에 대해 배우게 되는 시간을 가지게 되었습니다.
이번 글은 클라우드를 배운 기간동안 제가 따로 쓴 글이니 이게 aivle에서 하는 거구나!라고 오해는 안 해주셨으면 좋겠습니다!
클라우드 컴퓨팅은 쉽게 말해서 인터넷을 통해 컴퓨터 자원을 빌려 쓰는 거라고 생각하면 이해가 쉽습니다. 내 컴퓨터에 프로그램을 깔거나 서버를 직접 관리할 필요 없이, 인터넷만 있으면 언제 어디서나 필요한 만큼 컴퓨팅 파워를 사용할 수 있죠.
Netflix로 예를 들어보겠습니다. Netflix가 전 세계 수억 명의 사용자에게 서비스를 제공하려면 엄청난 서버가 필요한데, 자기들이 이걸 직접 구축하고 관리하는 대신 AWS 같은 클라우드 서비스를 이용해서 필요할 때마다 서버를 늘리거나 줄일 수 있어요. 어느정도 이해가 되셨나요? 각 서비스 기업들이 다 서버를 만들고 컴퓨팅 자원을 수집할 수 없으니까 이걸 대신 제공해주는 회사가 있는 거지요
There are a few things that describe the characteristics of cloud computing."
1. On-demand self service
Users can automatically provision computing resources whenever needed without requiring human interaction with the service provider.
2. broad network access
Services are accessible over the network and can be used by various client platforms such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and workstations.
3. Resource pooling
Computing resources are pooled to serve multiple customers using a multi-tenant model, with different physical and virtual resources dynamically assigned and reassigned according to demand.
4. Rapid elasticity
Capabilities can be elastically provisioned and released, in some cases automatically, to scale rapidly outward and inward commensurate with demand.
5. Measured service
Cloud systems automatically control and optimize resource use by leveraging a metering capability, enabling pay-as-you-go models.
then...so what? and what's next?
I think most people find it boring, so let me tell you the true story about cloud services with some examples and my fave food, pizza! let;s think about the case which is ordering some pizza
1. IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
-> Making pizza from scratch
Think of it like getting just the raw ingredients: dough, sauce, cheese, toppings — that’s it.
Services like AWS EC2 and Google Compute Engine fall into this category.
You get virtual machines, storage, and network resources, but everything else is up to you.
You install the OS.
You configure everything.
You deploy and manage your own applications.
High flexibility and control — but you’ll need solid technical skills (and maybe a chef’s hat).
2. PaaS (Platform as a Service)
-> Pre-made dough & oven included
You get the dough rolled out, the oven preheated — now you just add your toppings (your code) and bake!
Platforms like Heroku and Google App Engine give you everything you need to develop and run apps without managing infrastructure.
Focus on writing code, not maintaining servers.
Built-in auto-scaling and load balancing.
Some limitations on supported languages or frameworks.
Great for developers who just want to cook (code) and not worry about the kitchen setup.
3. SaaS (Software as a Service)
—> Hot pizza delivered to your door
Ready-to-eat, no prep, no mess.
Services like Gmail, Microsoft 365, and Slack are fully prepared apps you can use right away.
No installation, just log in and start.
Subscription-based.
Customization options may be limited.
Perfect for when you’re hungry (for productivity), not for managing servers.
Public Cloud —> Like Taking the Bus
Anyone can hop on. Stuff like AWS, Azure, and GCP are public clouds — cheap, super scalable, but yeah, you’re sharing the ride with others.
Private Cloud —> Like Driving Your Own Car
Fully owned and controlled by a company. Super secure, totally customizable — but dang, it ain’t cheap.
Hybrid Cloud —> Switch It Up
Sometimes you bus it, sometimes you drive. Mix of public and private — keep sensitive stuff in your own zone, toss regular workloads on the public side.
You can’t build a baller house without a solid foundation. Same goes for IT infra.
Hardware —> The Bricks and Beams
Servers: The muscle behind your apps. These days, it’s all about virtual machines.
Storage: Your digital closet. HDDs, SSDs, cloud buckets — whatever fits.
Networking gear: Routers, switches, firewalls — they keep your data cruising safely.
Software —> The Interior Vibes
Operating System: Windows, Linux — the base layer.
Middleware: The glue between your app and OS.
Database: Where all your data hangs out, neat and tidy.
