Romania in Autumn: Castles, Forests, and Fiery Colors

Jerome Foster·2025년 11월 11일

In Romania, there is a time, between September and November, when the light changes to golden and all the things become slow.

The woods are glittering with rust and copper and the vineyards are sweetly sleeping and the air smells of that particular crispness that causes you to draw your jacket more tightly around you and take a deeper breathing.

The autumn in Romania is like a painting, one of those events when everything stops and the beauty takes a soft and silent rule.

If you are planning to travel to Romania this Autumn then you should book a plan ahead and check out Meet And Greet Stansted and book according to your needs.

A Country Draped in Color

The fall of Romania does not hasten: it flows. The earliest signs of the season are in the north country, in the hilly slopes of Maramures where the mist sticks to the side of the hills and churches are made of wood and stand upon the trees with their gold leaves.

The transformation spreads to Transylvania, the country of castles, cobblestones and never-ending legends by October.

The process of driving over the countryside turns into the process of relentless wonder. With every twist comes something new; and here, a village huddled under a hill, here a shepherd working with his flock through a valley of red and orange, here a spire of church showing through a haze of mist.

Castles Which Belong to Pilot Time

There can be no Romanian fall, which will not visit its castles. Bran Castle which is frequently associated with the Dracula mythology acquires a certain magic when it is surrounded by the clog of the forests which are firey.

The odor of pine and damp earth is thick and the narrow passages of the fortress are even more mysterious with the low autumn light.

Farther to the South, on the shrubby slope of the nearby Sinaia, is Peles Castle, whose turrets and hewn wood are shining against the yellow cover of the Carpathians.

The sound of the leaves in the forest blows crisply, which contributes to the fairytale nature of the place, it is as though the castle were breathing the seasons in. These are sites of great historical importance to Romania and this appears alive when the fall of autumn sets in.

Woodland Rustles and Shy Lanes.

Autumn in Romania is a walking season to the wanderers who do not live in the cities. The woods of the hill of Carpathian have no end, and are oaks, beeches, and birches, all gleaming all the colors of flame. When walking along such paths, you can frequently be alone, except possibly to the rustling of the leaves and the call of some distant bird.

A very scenic path is one that takes the route on Piatra Craiului National Park. The mountains of limestone tower terrifically above the valleys, and on top of them you look down upon whole forests blazing like embers.

Something very down-to-earth about strolling through these autumn months, something very quiet which demands not to be heard, but to be heard.

Villages Caught between Seasons

As you go through the small towns and cities such as Viscri, with its stone-cobbled streets and its pastel-coloured houses or Sibiel, where each doorstep is rendered with a story, you get to know how autumn plays with life over there.

Farmers get ready for winter, smoke comes of chimneys, markets are full of pumpkins, apples and jars of golden honey.

Vineyards are busy in Transylvania. It is the time of harvest and people are picking grapes in the hot sun, laughing, singing, and telling stories playing cups of homemade spirits. There is the odor of must, the sweet pungent odor of the grape, blending with the woodsmoke and the earthy smell of the fallen leaves.

Cities in a Softer Light

Even such cities of Romania as Brasov, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca are glorified by autumn. It is the warmer street of the old town under the amber trees in Brasov. Cafes shine on the pavements, and there is always a fragrance of chestnuts roasting over it.

Even the pastel of the Sibiu facades are even softer under the golden sun, and the markets are shaking with the harvest of that season with mushrooms, pears, bottles of plum brandy which are waiting to be handed out.

The light in Romania changes to golden between September and November and everything then is slow.
