What happens if I permanently delete my Facebook account?

You will not be able to reactivate your account.
Your profile, photos, posts, videos, and everything else you have added will be permanently deleted. You will not be able to retrieve anything you have added.

You will no longer be able to use Facebook Messenger.
You will not be able to use the Facebook login for other applications that you have logged into with your Facebook account, such as Spotify or Pinterest. You may need to contact the apps and websites to get those accounts back.

Some data, such as messages you sent to your friends, may still be visible to them after deleting your account. Copies of the messages you have sent are stored in your friends' inboxes.

If you use your Facebook account to log into Oculus, deleting your Facebook account will also delete your information from Oculus. This includes your app purchases and your achievements. You will no longer be able to return any applications and you will lose your existing store credits.

What if I don't want all my content removed, but I want to take a break from Facebook?

You can take a break from Facebook and temporarily deactivate your account. When you temporarily deactivate your account:
People will not be able to view or access your Facebook profile.
Your photos, posts and videos will not be deleted.

You can still use Facebook Messenger. Your profile photo will still be visible in your conversations and people can still search for you by name to send you a message. You will continue to appear to your friends on Facebook in places where they can message you.
You can still use the Facebook login for your other apps, like Spotify, Pinterest, or Games.

You will not be able to use your Facebook account to access Oculus Products or your Oculus information.

How do I permanently delete my account?

Before deleting your account, you may want to log in and download a copy of your information (such as your photos and posts) from Facebook, and a copy of your information from Oculus if you use your Facebook account to log into Oculus. Once your account is deleted, you won't be able to get back anything you've added.

To permanently delete your account:
Click at the top right of Facebook.
Select Settings & Privacy> Settings.
Click Your Facebook Information in the left column.
Click Deactivation and Removal.
Choose Permanently delete account, and then click Continue with account deletion.
Click Remove account, enter your password, and then click Continue.

Can I cancel the deletion of my account?

If it has been less than 30 days since the deletion started, you can cancel the deletion of your account. After 30 days, your account and all of your information will be permanently deleted and you will not be able to retrieve your information.

It may take up to 90 days from the beginning of the removal process to remove all the things you have posted. While we delete this information, other people who use Facebook cannot access it.

Copies of your information may remain after 90 days in backup storage that we use to recover in the event of a disaster, software bug, or other data loss event. Log into your Facebook account within 30 days of deleting your account.
