With so many types of gravel out there, how does a landscaping company know which types to use?

Roadbase

Roadbase is a type of gravel that is used as a base material for all sorts of structures. These include driveways, patios, walkwys, retaining walls, and drainage systems. It is an easy to work with and economical solution for landscaping needs. Roadbase when compacted provides a stable solid foundation upon which other structures can be placed on.

Clear Crush

This rock is used for promoting drainage and for structurally stability. It's very similar to roadbase but lack the fine particulates found in roadbase. Since it has been cleaned out, it's more expensive than roadbase.

Screen

This is an excellent material that is mostly made up of small angular rocks and stone dust. It provides a very stable cheap material that is easily shaped into whatever you wish. It is around the same price as clear crush and is used in many public parks for walkways and driveways.

Drain Rock

This rock is excellent for promoting drainage but is unsuited for structural purposes. It is basically used in areas where there is no expected traffic whether it's from man or machine. They are often seen placed in dry creek beds.
