영어 스터디 - get p.p (get it checked, get it fixed, get it sent)
나는 내 방을 청소해야 해.
I have to clean my room.
나는 내 방을 내일까지 청소해야 해.
I have to clean my room by tomorrow. - 의미는 맞긴 하지만 어색하다.
I have to get my room cleaned by tomorrow.
나는 내일까지 내 방을 청소해놔야 돼.
get sth p.p : sth를 p.p 한다.
"무언가를 끝낸다" 는 의미를 강조하는 뉘앙스이다.
끝낸다는 의미를 강조하기 위해 매우 많이 사용하는 표현이다.
특히 마감기한이 정해져 있을 때 (위 예문의 by tomorrow 처럼) 그 의미를 더 강조할 수 있다.
- 일부 목적어가 없는 동사들 (sleep, work, exercise ...)을 제외하고, 목적어가 있는 거의 모든 동사에 활용이 가능하다.
나 거기에 두시까지 가야 해.
I have to go there ... (어색함 - 가는 게 아닌 도착하는 것이 목적이기 때문)
I have to get/arrive/be there by 2 o'clock. 가 더 자연스럽다.
❓finish 도 끝낸다는 의미인데 이건 어떤가?
- finish 는 이미 시작해 진행 중인 일을 끝낼 때 더 자연스러운 표현이다.
- 예를 들어 청소 중에 들어와서 피자 먹으러 가자고 할 때 "지금 하던 청소 마저 끝내고 나갈게(Sure. After I finish cleaning my room.) 사용할 수 있음
나 이거 내일까지 해야 해.
I have to do this by tomorrow. 보다는...🤔
I have to get this done by tomorrow.
I have to get this finished by tomorrow.
이게 더 자연스럽다.
get p.p 라는 표현 자체가 원어민들이 매우 많이 사용하는 표현이다.
영작 연습
- 우리 이거 다음 주 까지 고쳐놓지 못하면 새로 하나 사야 될 거야. (fix)
- 오늘까지 이 이메일을 보내놓지 않으면 나 상사한테 죽어. (send)
- 앞으로 2-3개월 안으로는 다 준비를 해 놓는 게 좋을 거야. (prepare)
If we don't get this fixed by next week, we should by a new one.
If I can't get this email sent by today, I'll be punished (to by boss?)
Maybe it would be better to get prepared in 2-3months.
