Today, I’d like to introduce a comedy movie that I always watch during the Christmas season.
It’s not Home Alone. Of course, I watch Home Alone every year, but not intentionally. Since it’s aired all over the world during the holidays, I can’t help but watch it.
can't help but - ~하지 않을 수 없다 어쩔 수 없이 하다. (불가피)
The movie I want to talk about today, however, is something I watch by choice.by choice 스스로 선택해서, 자발적으로 In fact, I don’t only watch it during the Christmas season—I often revisit it to remind myself of my top priorities in life. It’s a typical comedy movie, but it has a special place in my heart. has a speciai place in my heart
The movie is called Last Holiday.
The story revolves around a woman who works as a salesperson at a department store. She’s an ordinary person who lives with her bucket list in mind but feels stuck due to the realities of life. She compromises her dreams to deal with financial struggles and other limitations.

One day, after a minor accident, she visits a doctor and receives shocking news: she’s diagnosed with an incurable disease.

This becomes a turning point in her life. She decides to free herself from everything that’s been holding her back—her boss, financial worries, time constraints—and starts living the life she’s always dreamed of.

And, since it’s a movie, everything begins to go her way. She befriends senators and wealthy people and unexpectedly becomes a mysterious superstar in their circle.
At one point in the movie, someone who knows about her diagnosis asks her, “Why are you here with these terrible people? You should be with the people you love.”
I don’t know why, but this line touched my heart deeply when I first watched the movie back in 2012. It’s hard to explain, but something about it stayed with me.
Since then, whenever I feel like something is missing in my life, I turn to this movie for inspiration.
Initially, I prepared this session to introduce my favorite movie to you and hoped you might enjoy it as much as I do. However, I realized that the main purpose of this meeting is to practice English.
To speak English well, you need to listen and speak a lot. And to improve at something, you need to do it repeatedly.
So, I’d like to ask all of you:
Please share your favorite movies, music, or books—anything you love and wish others could enjoy too. Explain it with passion.
It's the start of the Lunar New Year holiday in Korea.
A decade ago, I saw this movie.
I was impressed by Georgia's courage.
Georgia is probably the main character of this movie.
I thought she's so lucky woman becasue, she had an enough amount of money, so she could do everything she wanted!! She probably saved a lot of money.
she even borrowed a helicopeter to move to hotel.
Today, I wrote the script myself for what I wanted to say.
Let me read this.
I'm going to introduce my favorite flim.
That movie called perfect days
It was directed by Wim Wenders and is set in Tokyo.
I watched the movie recently.
The movie shows Hirayama, the main character, his ordinary life along with the episodes that happend around him. He works as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo, and He puts his heart into his work.
along with ~와 함께, ~에 더하여
The story is simple,
Every weekday he wakes up early morning, washes, waters the potted plants, and starts his day with a canned coffee.
At lunch, he eats a sandwitch with a milk in the park. After finishing his work, He goes to the public bath to clean himself. Then, he visits his favorite pub and drinks a beer. His daily routine is nothing special and repeats every single day.
It also main story of this movie. But audience can notice that something else happenes around him: the weather changes, his coworker quits and new, an unexpected visit from his niece, and many other small episodes unfold in his life.
unfold in ~에서 전개되다, ~에서 펼쳐지다 (take place in , happen in, occur in)
In this perspective, his daily routine is not actually repetition.
Even though It seems boring and his life looks very simmilar, eachdays is definitely diffrent each days.
It seemed to me that he was working very diligently.
Through Hirayama's daily routine, I could feel the value of ordinary life, even with the events happening around him.
The movie tells "Perfect days exists in the ordinary life."
The ordinary becomes life.
If you watch this movie, you will recognize that your everyday life is valuable and you can grow to love yourself throug it.
"This movie also reminds me of the phrase InGon mentioned:
'Why are you here with these terrible people? You should be with the people you love.'
This movie also reminds me of the phrase InGon mentioned:
'Why are you here with these terrible people? You should be with the people you love.'
This phrase means you should be with the precious people who love you. Perhaps, in the movie, the precious people refer to those who were always around Georgia(last holiday). Similarly, for me, the people I need are not far away but right around me. Likewise, you might think that your ordinary daily life is dull and unremarkable. But could it be that this is actually your perfect day?
