나의 감정

늙은 어부 Santiago 는 작은 배 하나로 물고기를 잡고, 낡은 오두막에서 지내고 있다.

그는 86일동안 물고기를 잡지 못했고, 그와 그 주변 사람들은 그의 운이 다했다고 믿는다.
하지만, 그의 곁에있는 소년은 그가 이전에도 87일째 부터 매일같이 물고기를 잡았던 적도 있다고 말해준다.

오두막에 있을땐 소년이 식사를 근처 식당에서 받아오는듯 하다.
great de magio 라는 야구선수를 좋아하고, 양키스 팬인듯 하다.

그 야구선수도 아버지가 어부였다고 한다.

그는 혼자 출항하게 되고, 소년이 없어서일까, 침묵을 지킬 필요가 없어서일까
혼자서 여러 존재에게 말을 건다.

바다, 자신의 손, 그리고 자신이 잡은 물고기와, 그 물고기를 노리는 상어떼까지

그가 큰 물고기를 잡으러 갔을때, 소년은 야구경기 때문에 함께 가지못했고
그것때문에 그가 돌아왔을때 많이 슬퍼했다.

그의 다치고 지친 모습, 배 옆에 묶여있는 머리와 앙상하게 뼈만 남은 물고기의 모습을 보면서 어떤 상황이였을지 짐작이 가기 때문일테다.

하지만, 어째서일까. 나는 그의 모습에서 말로 표현할수 없는 감정을 느꼈다.
그는 혼자였지만, 혼자가 아니였고, 지키지는 못했지만 더 중요한걸 지켜냈다는 생각이 들었다.

어부라는 운명, 그는 그가 할수 있는 모든걸 해냈고, 운명에게 자신이 누구인지 분명하게 보여주었다. 그의 독백은 그 자신과 주변 존재들에게 말을 걸고, 그 속에서 보여준 고뇌, 슬픔, 인내는 살아가는 것에 대해, 그 아프고도 아름다운, 알 수 없는 무언가에 대한 성취를, 승리를 보여주는것이 아닐까 라는 생각이 들었다.

The old fisher man, Santiago catches a fish with a small skiff, and live in a old shack.

For 86 days, He cannot catch a fish, and both He and villagers believe he's luck is gone.
But, The boy next to him says even before, he catch a fish every day from the 87th day.

While he in the shack, It seems like the boy carry the meal from nearby restaurant.
He like a baseball player named great de magio, and he is a fan of yankees.

The baseball player's father is a fisherman, too.

He sat sail alone, and perhaps due to absence of the boy, or no need to be quiet, he talks alone to several entities.

Sea, His hands, and the fish he catches, and even the sharks which prey on the fish.

When he catch the fish, the boy cannot come with him due to baseball game. So when he come back, the boy is deeply sad.

He would guess what situation it would be, His tired and worned look, tattered fish next to the skiff.

But somehow, although I seems hard to tell, i felt something in his appearance.
Although He is alone, genuinely it isn't. and even though he cannot protect the fish, he surely protect even greater thing.

The fate that born of fisherman, He accomplish everything what he could do, and show himself to the fate what he really is. His monologue, while keeps talk himself and nearby entities, shows distress, sadness, endurance, what living is, that is hurt and beautiful, achivement of something unknown, a victory.

The old fisherman, Santiago, lives in a small shack and goes out to sea in his little skiff to fish.

For 86 days, he cannot catch a single fish, and both he and the villagers believe that his luck has run out.

Yet, the boy who used to fish with him still believes in him.
He promises that Santiago will catch a fish again after the 87th day.

While Santiago stays in his shack, the boy brings him food from a nearby restaurant.

Santiago admires the great baseball player DiMaggio, a hero whose father was also a fisherman. Like DiMaggio, Santiago keeps faith in his strengh and endurance.

One day, he sets sail alone. Without the boy beside him, he talks to himself - to the sea, to his own hands, to the great fish he catches, and even to the sharks that attack his catch.

When he finally returns, exhausted and empty-handed except for the skeleton of the fish, the boy sees his worn and weathered face and feels deep sorrow. Yet there is something noble in Santiago's apprearance - something beyond loss.

Although he seems alone, he is not truly alone. Though he could not bring the fish home, he has protected something greater - his pride, his spirit, his destiny as a fisherman.

Through his monologue, we can feel his pain, loneliness, endurance, and quiet victory. It tells us what is means to live - to strive, to suffer, and to find beauty even in defeat.
