Email은 Application Layer에서 동작하는 Application으로, SMTP(Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)를 사용한다.

■ User Agent

• Email Application
• Email 읽기/쓰기 담당
  
  

■ Mail Server

• 모든 메시지 저장
• User Agent는 편집만 담당하고, 송/수신 메시지는 모두 서버에 저장된다.
• Email의 송/수신자는 모두 Mail Server이다.

■ STMP

• Mail Server간 통신할 때 사용하는 Application Layer의 Protocol
