Most Important Lifestyle Habits Of Successful Founders

Plan For The Punches

Aduiting Harder

Audit How You Live

Good & Bad Habits

Information Diet

Information we consume affects us and it makes me think about again myself all of us

your social media habits make you feel bad or compare yourselves to people or say yoy follow a lot of like investors and everything theyโ€™re talking

every day youโ€™re bombarding your brain with stuff about investor shit

why is that good why how is that helping you actually run your startup

I think people are surprised that like successful founders like explicitly block social media they do crazy things like grayscale their phone so it looks less interesting they turn off notifications theyโ€™re aggressive users of screentime

Salary Bumps

snake oil(deceptive marketing or scam)

penny-wise pound foolish: careful about small amounts of money but not about large amounts โ†’ used especially to describe something that is done to save a small amount of money now but that will cost a large amount of money in the future

just a small incremental five or ten percent cal salary bump can make a huge lifestyle difference

sometimes people are sacrificing pennywise pound foolish

there is no right answer on size fits all for everyone or hereโ€™s the formula

anyone that tells you their simple answers is probably trying to sell you something. Itโ€™s probably snake oil.

So you want to pay yourself enough that you donโ€™t get into dept you want to pay yourself enough so that youโ€™re properly motivated you also want to keep enough you want to keep the money in the company

like these are all variables that you have to turn and if youโ€™re going to be a successful founder you have to have good judgment and you have to have opinions

When founders have no opinion about this stuff โ†’ itโ€™s not a great sign so itโ€™s kind of like you need a philosophy of what youโ€™re solving for around compenstation you want to set everyone up for success a line incentives well

Michael Seibelโ€™s philosophy: salary is for living and equity is for upside.

Hard Conversations

everyone has to go through this and itโ€™s gonna suck

if you have some of those in the bag when you get punched in the face you all know a little bit more how to interact with each other

anxious personality vs avoid into personally type

if you can figure out that dance with your co-founder

itโ€™s so much more helpful when youโ€™re dealing with these external challenges

the startupโ€™s going to present many opportunities for frustraion with co-founder

โ†’ a lot of people want to ask us advice about co-founder stuff but that what they want is us to agree that they were right and their co-founder is wrong ๐Ÿ˜‚

actual thing that you need advice on a thing to work on is meta conversation which is like how do you deal with conflict so the people feel good when ifโ€™s over

early stage founders argue about the dumbest things that thereโ€™s almost infinite opportunities to practice this dealing with frustration of your co-founder

Expectation Setting

expectation setting is so much of life

setting expectation for yourself and for people you work with about what to expect

if you are good at that people can deal with all sorts of stuff and when you get into the biggest trouble both with yourself managing your own brain as well as working with other people is when you say a bunch of stuff. that is that turns out to be really not true

so expectation setting is key for prevention

based on real stories of companies โ†’ just know how long this takes

if your company set a stupid expectation then they feel like somethingโ€™s wrong and youโ€™re just like holy crap you just invented a crisis

startups have enough crises without that

Fight or Flight

adrenaline makes you crazy on the situation

after sleeping you have whole new amount of clarity on the situation and you can find your best moments in my worst moments

thereโ€™s always a third option which is donโ€™t act

the best founders no action becomes one of their like key plays โ†’ use that play way more than you think

Good R&R

R&R(Role and Responsibilities)

so when things go bad thereโ€™s a current inside of a set of people you should probably be hanging out with and a certain set of people you probably shouldnโ€™t be hanging out with

we see other sorts of folks that are like oh you should do tons of drugs of letโ€™s go not sleep for a really long amount of time or hang out with celebrities

thereโ€™s all these differnt crowds you can get into
