What I've been doing for 3 months since I moved to Coupang Play
It's been a month since I joined to Play(a.k.a. CoupangPlay). As soon as I arrived, there were several events within Play.
- First, Tottenham football match(쿠팡플레이 시리즈) has held in august. Unfortuantly, I don't know much about football except for "Heung-min Son". So I didn't realize unitl later that coming to see this game in person would be huge for football fans. I also visited Sangam World Cop Stadium for the first time. Luckly I hold a Play Banner, walk on the stadium grass and watch "Heung-min Son" player very closely.
2/ Study English
My manager is Singaporean, so I was most concerned about communication. It was my first time speaking and writing in English, So I didn't know how to do it most efficiently. At first, I just tried to start a conversation as soon as i felt like. Thankfuly, I'm not afriad of using English as much as I expected.
3/ Understanding OTT business domain

Having previously worked in mobility and e-commerce, OTT(or Streaming) business was as new challenge. I've integrated as RSS feed into Slack that automatically scraping all domain-related news. I'll continue to add more perspectives to my analysis as I go along

My manager downloaded Whole Company metrics for me. It's a lot to digest, so it'll take some time to get to grips with it all, but the metrics are all within the expected range.
Culture
I've been working only couple of months, so I don't have a full understading of the company, but here is a quick summary based on my experience so far.
Non-face-to-face
- Our Play team orients the "Non-face-to-face" working environment. So, only a few coworkers come to office.
- It is hard to make relationship with coworkers. If we need a meeting or smalltalk, then we use "Zoom" or "Slack".
Security is Important
- Of course, security is important. but, It is too harsh and even interferes with work in person. This article is also a personal reflection, but I'm posting it after carefully thinking about whether it might be a security issue.
- Hopefully, unless it's a serious security issue, they'll loosen up the security scope somewhat.
Leadership principles
- Coupang Leadership has famous in business area. "How did I ever live without Coupang?" is the slogan of coupang.
- "WoW the customer", "Dive Deep", "Ruthless Prioritization"(One of Play head most loved principal) etc.. I'm not going to tell everything but If you have any curious about it then you can find here. https://www.coupang.jobs/kr/coupang-leadership-principles/
- All this principles looks very good. but, It is really hard to work within these these principles. I wonder how these rules make coupang members moved.
